Introduction to Manure Injection
Disposal of liquid manure need not be a compromise to direct seeding. In the past the mindset has been that manure must be incorporated or worked into the soil with tillage as soon as possible after application on the field. There may have been some good reasoning behind that practice, but times change (ie: direct seeding). With an expanding livestock sector, more forage acres, and the majority of Alberta’s annual crop land now being seeded in a manner that retains the bulk of the crop residue on the soil surface (2001 Canadian Agriculture Census), its time to get serious about using improved ways to apply manure (which will always be a valuable soil amendment).
